Exceptional quality

We work with producers who take care of the people and the land they distill from.

In the Dominican Republic, our partner Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos runs on 100% renewable energy, using biomass from sugarcane and solar power.

In Lluidas Vale, Jamaica, our rum is distilled in copper pot stills using a closed-loop system that reuses waste for fuel.

This isn’t just about rum—it’s about responsibility.

Surprisingly good

When it comes to spirits, I tend to favour vodka, such as Grey Goose but I thought I'd give this rum a go and was pleasantly surprised! This rum is smooth and sweet, so it can be enjoyed neat little both neat and on the rocks. There's no harsh or burning aftertaste and nothing to make your eyes water.Costing perhaps a little more than a mainstream supermarket brand, you can certainly taste and appreciate where the extra money goes.

Good quality

A very pleasant smooth rum which is pleasant to drink neat or with mixer. Obviously this is more expensive than your average your average supermarket brand and I do feel they can justify that expense with the quality of the spirit. It does taste good and really is warming without that bitter aftertaste you get with cheaper brands. Certainly worth a try.

Good quality smooth rum

I am no rum connoisseur, so this may not be the most insightful review, but if, like me, you enjoy a quality tipple I'm sure you will be satisfied with this lovely rum. There aren't many spirits that I can drink neat, but this, despite it's strength, is smooth enough to enjoy neat with some ice. The bottle arrived well packaged and undamaged. The bottle reflects the quality of the rum and the price making a nice addition to my bar. Highly recommend!

This definitely reminds me of drinking rum in the Caribbean

I've currently got sixteen bottles of rum, and they are a mix of dark rum, spiced rum, aged rum and flavoured rum (not liqueurs), and yet this Solar Reserve 55 still stands out amongst them for taste and flavour... and for managing to transport me back to the Caribbean, where I tasted rum for the first time.I can't quite put my finger on what it is that tastes so 'Caribbean', and even though I really like rum, I'm no connoisseur, so I find it hard to describe the flavours I'm tasting - but it's probably best described as tropical lol. What I can say is that this is very smooth - I've had it neat (ambient), neat (chilled with a giant ice cube), mixed with ginger ale (also with giant ice cube), but my favourite way is definitely as a rum old fashioned (with the obligatory giant ice cube lol). It's a pleasure to sip and savour, you don't want to rush this one. And I've found that the taste of it, and interestingly, even the 'memory' of the taste of it, has stayed with me for quite some time after I've finished it. I can even taste it as I'm writing this :)Not sure what else to tell you, other than I think it's lovely and I'm thoroughly enjoying drinking it. It's a quality, mature rum.

Absolutely gorgeous premium rum

I love rum and appreciate that premium bottles will cost more, though I usually draw the line at around £35 and often wonder, how much better can it really be? With that in mind, I was excited to try Solar Reserve Rum for review as part of the Amazon Vine programme. I have to say, I was genuinely surprised at just how good this is - plenty of strength at 43% ABV, yet still incredibly smooth. It carries that bittersweet molasses flavour reminiscent of Woods, but far less harsh, with a lovely hint of fruity sweetness from the blend of 3–8-year-old Dominican Republic and Jamaican rums aged in bourbon oak.For me, it’s a perfect sipping rum - rich, well-rounded, and beautifully balanced. I will definitely be buying this again and can heartily recommend it to anyone who truly appreciates a good rum.

FAQ section

Show frequently asked questions with answers and pair with image.

Where is your rum made?

We source our rum from award-winning distilleries in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic — both known for heritage, quality, and sustainable practices. When then ship it to Scotland and bottle it with famous Whisky bottlers in Glasgow.

What does “tropically aged” mean?

It means the rum is matured in its country of origin, where the warm climate accelerates ageing and enhances flavour depth.

Do you add sugar, colouring, or additives?

Never. Our rum is pure — no added sugar, no caramel colouring, no flavourings. Just honest, well-made rum.

What makes Solar Reserve Rum sustainable?

We work with environmentally conscious distilleries, bottle in lightweight glass (33% less), use recycled cane paper labels, and partner only with producers that share our commitment to reducing waste and emissions.

What's the difference between SR55 and SR8?

SR55 is our signature blend — bold, versatile, and great in cocktails. SR8 is a single origin 8-year-old Dominican rum, smooth and complex, perfect for sipping neat or in elevated classics.

Where can I buy your rum?

You can order directly from our website or find us at selected bars, restaurants, and retailers across the UK.

Do you ship to my country?

Currently we only ship within the UK. Sorry!
