Solar Reserve 8 is made from fresh cane juice using column stills and distilled by Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos (AFD). Aged 8 years at origin with full tropical maturation in once-used ex-bourbon American oak barrels, this rum brings forward deep notes of toffee, coconut, hazelnut, and spiced baked apple, finished with a velvety touch of vanilla cream.

Solar Reserve features hand-selected Caribbean island rums, bottled without added sugar or caramel. Both distilleries we work with prioritise sustainability by using locally grown sugarcane, renewable energy from cane by-products, and water recycling.

At Solar Reserve, sustainability, drives our choices, from the distilleries we work with to the lightweight glass, recycled labels, and closures we use, all helping to reduce our carbon footprint.

Sustainability

At Solar Reserve Rum Co we source our rums from distilleries with excellent sustainability practices and use locally grown sugar cane.

Our rum from the Dominican Republic distillery: Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos is one of the pioneers in the reuse of bagasse (sugar cane pulp remaining after the juice extracted) as a biomass fuel.  AFD has achieved production of 96 percent of their electricity used throughout the year from biomass cogeneration using the bagasse as well as solar panel power generation.

Our rum from Jamaican comes from a famous distillery in Lluidas Vale. Spanning nearly 10,000 acres, with 4,000 dedicated to sugarcane, the distillery benefits from a unique microclimate characterised by warm, humid days and cool, dry nights. This climate optimizes sugarcane growth, leading to premium cane used in rum production. The distillery stands out globally as it uses 100% of its estate-produced molasses, adding to the rum’s distinctive taste and authenticity.

The distillery takes sustainability seriously, with an onsite sugar factory where cane juice is extracted, clarified, and boiled, leaving molasses and cane sugar. This molasses is sent via underground pipes to the distillery for fermentation, creating a seamless, environmentally friendly production process.
